Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

This policy explains how StartTheDate subscriptions are billed, how to cancel, when billing stops, and when refunds may apply. It forms part of our Terms of Service. StartTheDate is operated from Ontario, Canada. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your full card details.

1. Subscriptions Renew Automatically

StartTheDate paid plans are monthly subscriptions. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and the applicable fee is charged to your payment method through Stripe, until you cancel. The price and plan features are shown at checkout before you pay.

2. Cancel Anytime

You can cancel your subscription at any time. There is no cancellation fee. You can cancel through either of these:

3. When Billing Stops & Access Ends

When you cancel, we stop future renewals — you will not be charged again. Your paid access continues until the end of your current billing period. After that date, your account returns to the free tier. Cancelling partway through a period does not shorten the access you have already paid for.

4. Refund Policy

Except where a refund is required by applicable law, subscription fees that have already been charged are non-refundable, because cancelling keeps your paid access active until the end of the period you paid for. We do not provide partial or pro-rated refunds for unused time within a billing period.

If you believe you were charged in error, or you have a situation you would like us to review, contact support@startthedate.com. We review refund requests in good faith and will honour any refund rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law.

5. Accidental or Unexpected Renewals

If you were charged for a renewal you did not intend — for example, you meant to cancel before the renewal date — email support@startthedate.com promptly (ideally within a few days of the charge). Tell us the email on your account and the approximate date of the charge. We will review it and, where appropriate, cancel the subscription and consider a refund. To avoid accidental renewals, cancel before your renewal date; you keep access until the period ends regardless.

6. One-Time Purchases

For one-time purchases (such as an ebook), refund eligibility is described at the point of sale and may differ from the subscription terms above.

7. Cancellation Is Not Account Deletion

Cancelling your subscription and deleting your account are different actions:

If you only want to stop being billed while keeping your account, use cancel subscription — not account deletion.

8. Support & Response Time

For any billing, cancellation, or refund question, email support@startthedate.com. We aim to respond within 2 business days.

9. Your Rights Under Canadian Consumer Law

StartTheDate is operated from Ontario, Canada. Nothing in this policy or our Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law, including the Ontario Consumer Protection Act and comparable legislation in your province or territory of residence. Where such law gives you a right to cancel or to a refund that is greater than what this policy provides, that law applies.
